Trim gauge on boat not working. Trim gauge not working if dismantling and manually adjusting the trim sender affects the gauge readout you are in good shape. Give the sender a good greasing and make sure everything is properly attached. Theres no reason it shouldnt work if those two things are done.
With the motor tilted all the way up you will see the arm. Theres a pair of wires that come off the switch. Connect your multimeter to the terminals with the meter set to OHMS.
Move the arm and watch the meter. Thats pretty much all the trim gauge is is an ohm meter. Troubleshooting the reason my trim gauge on my 82 Mercury Mariner 150 will not work.

I have a 2005 Triton 186 with yamaha 115 FS. The boat has been on the boat lift at the dock this winter and when I took it out for a spin this weekend I noticed the trim gauge was reading full up when the motor was all the way down. It moves a little but not much.
I checked the back of the guage for lose wires but did not see a problem. If no voltage across the wires then there is a wiring issue. Loose connection bad ground etc On the trim gauge the switchessending units on the sides of the outdrive may be corroded but with your multimeter you could read across the trim gauge wires and look for the reading to change as you move the drive up and down.
Part 3 is the trim sender on the midsection. Turn the key to ON. Manually move the small arm on the trim sender they commonly get stuck from corrosion or even break.
Watch the trim gauge while moving the trim sender see if it moves. If no movement on the gauge the sender is probably bad. Not sure how the Volvo trim senders work but if it is like the Mercs you can adjust them.
On a Merc you loosen the hold down screws of the sender turn on the ignition to power the gauges and with the drive in a full down position you rotate the sender. Move the trim sender lever while the key is in the ON position and see if the gauge moves if not then you have to troubleshoot the system for connections. Boats Motors.

For the trimtilt problem you are experiencing if the wires from the limit switch port side and trim position sender starboard side are in good condition they Switch or sender can be disassembled to clean out the old hardened grease. SCRIBE the sides of each one and the OD for a reference mark before removal. When selecting a trim gauge you must be certain you get a gauge that is compatible with the resistance of the trim sensor in the engine.
A common problem is a loss of ground return in the circuit. Some circuits run an isolated ground back from the trim sender to the gauge. Artist you posted that your trim mph and oil pressure gauges do not work after rebuilding your engine so to me it sounds like something other that problems with the gauges.
Lets start off with the trim gauge - you didnt mention whether or not your lower unit actually goes up and down but if it does then the issue is most likely with the tilt trim switches located on. Without the trim gauge the feel comes in. I still found the final trim was in the rpms gps expection with pre knowledge performance of the of the hull with a known weight ppl.
Trim gauge just makes it quicker far less messing around. And having well trimmed makes a gauge difference to hull drag the rpms speed and therefore economy. Ive had a lot to do on my boat and have neglected the tilttrim gauge.
The gauge is brand new 4 wire unit. It stopped working about two weeks ago. I checked the harness and it has continuity in each of the 4 wires unplugged from the switch.
I also checked the tt switch and the arm moves freely. I need troubleshooting advice. My fuel gauge trim gauge and speedometer dont function any longer.
The priority is fuel gauge. It stopped working a few years ago and when I had it repaired at a boat shop it still didnt work with the evidence that something was done because the indicator now functioned in reverse. I have the Command Link gauge 6YC and my last trip the Trim Tab indicator is showing the trim in the lowest position 1-Bar for both motors.
The trim works via the Throttles the dash Trim switches and from the motors themselves but the Trim indicator doesnt adjust on the Command Link display. I have searched and not able to find the issue. Reply 1 on.
March 02 2011 063825 PM. Start simple - check fuses check trim gauge wiring - look for broken trim wires at gimbal housiing are etc. The gauges which read engine info tachometer hour meter trim are not working.
The tachometer and trim gauges respond to the initialization when key is turned on but nothing after. I assume its a signal issue and not a fuse since they do the initialization. They are Faria analog gauges connected to a Mercury Verado 150.

Most likely the fuse panel has corroded and needs replacement. As a stop gap you can pull the fuses and lightly sandpaper the fuse clips as well as the metal ends of the fuses. Put the fuses back in and if the tab indicator is still not working rotate the fuses in the clip holders to get purchase on metal to metal.
